Our movement philosophy focuses on identifying movement restrictions. Once identified we utilize mobility and stretching drills to restore and even increase the stable range of motion available to the affected joint(s). After, and only after, the desired range of motion has been restored we transition to skill acquisition. Skill acquisition consist of learning how to squat, lunge, bend, twist, push, pull, walk, jog, and sprint. Once a skill is properly acquired we begin the strengthening or endurance phase to ensure longevity of the tissue. Once you are flexible, balanced, and strong we increase the complexity of your movement practice.

Movement skill improvement has many benefits including:

    Balancing your musculoskeletal system leads to improved biomechanics creating more efficient movement while decreasing fatigue allowing for higher levels of performance.

    Movement of the musculoskeletal system assist the organs in pumping lymph and blood though your veins and arteries as well as assisting in peristalsis (a major component of digestion/elimination).

    Movement influences the release of numerous hormones. Not enough movement and you don't produce enough “feel good” hormones, too much movement produces excessive “stress hormones”.

    A lack of movement throughout the day causes a shortening and weakening of the musculoskeletal system as a whole greatly increasing the likelihood of injury.

Working with an educated trainer can make all the difference in the world.  An educated trainer will have an understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, and functional movement.  This knowledge allows our trainers the ability to adjust movements to accommodate your body. Not only do our trainers have an in-depth understanding of movement, but also know that there is no end to movement requiring countless hours of continuing education and self-practice.

What Does Science Say:
It seems that corrective exercise is the safe and valuable method to correct spinal deformities such as kyphosis, scoliosis, and lumbar lordosis and it can decrease the old age problems and disabilities. (Journal of Isfahan Medical School, Vol 27, No 101).

Many of our clients have worked with trainers in the past often with the same back story.  The first 2-3 month tend to go well with most any trainer because something is usually better than nothing.  However once the initial plateau is reached the regression begins.  Participants often end up injured, exhausted, cease to make improvements, or all of the above.  This is usually do to a lack of understanding of bio-mechanical, anatomical, and physiological principles.  We invite you to join those whom have found a better way to move at PFW.
